The shrine – called the Viharn Phranorn – was constructed around the finished Buddha, with giant columns obscuring a frontal view. Every inch of the wall surface is decorated with beautiful murals depicting the advent and propagation of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, and the lives of important disciples.

Known also as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, its official name is Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan. The temple complex houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including a 46 m long reclining Buddha. The image of the reclining Buddha represents the entry of Buddha into Nirvana and the end of all reincarnations.
The face is 15 meters high, each foot of the statue is 3 meters high and 5 meters long. The soles of the feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl which depict the 108 auspicious signs of the Buddha.

The Buddhasaiyas was commissioned by King Rama III around 1830, and crafted in situ with stuccoed bricks overlaid with gold leaf.

Wat Phra Kaew commonly known in English as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and officially as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. It houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which is venerated as the country's palladium.

A pair of golden Yaksha steadfastly guards the entrance to Phra Mondop at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. This royal library at the Grand Palace is never opened to the public because inside are the holy scriptures called the Tripitaka or Triple Basket. They are considered to be too sacred. Phra Mondop means the library of palm-leaf scriptures.
